For Contour Art Gallery, the exhibition LOCALS signifies a new chapter with the opening of its first permanent venue, a space of over 500 m², in Vilnius, Lithuania.
Today the Gallery, which has been operating without its own walls and holding exhibitions in different spaces every time, has become part of the Dūmų fabrikas (Smoke Factory) and its mission – to revive Naujoji Vilnia (Vilnius suburb Vileika) and turn it into a cultural attraction spot thus expanding the boundaries of the cultural map of Vilnius.
LOCATION from which the exhibited artists come from is the main reference point for their work.
Petras Lincevičius (born in 1990), an associate professor and organizer of cultural projects, is a versatile artist, known for co-authoring the fresco “The Nonexistent Space” at Vytautas Mineral Spa in Birštonas, Lithuania, and for his work on the Lithuanian film “The Basement (Rūsys)”. Additionally, he is a skilled book illustrator. His works are part of notable collections, including Abu Dhabi ArtHub in the UAE, Imago Mundi – Luciano Benetton in Italy, and MO Museum in Vilnius.
Andrėja Maiburovaitė (born in 2000) is a student of the Vilnius Academy of Arts, invited to continue her Master’s studies at the Hague Royal Academy of Arts. This year the artist became the finalist of the Zabolis Art Prize competition and Contour Art Gallery in collaboration with Smoke Factory invited her, as the best candidate, to participate in this exhibition.
